20-20 cricket

January 13th, 2005 | No Comments | Posted in Sport

I watched some of the 20-20 cricket tonight between Australia A and Pakistan. In fact, I’ve just come from the TV with Pakistan at 5/69 after 11 overs, forlornly chasing 180 to win.

I think the concept of 20-20 will take off. People love to see fast action and the three-hour timeframe is akin to a football match. I quite like it myself, although there will no doubt be many examples of lop-sided matches as one team collapses.

I don’t think there’s any threat posed to Test cricket, but “traditional” limited overs cricket, the 50-over version, may suffer.
