I’m shocked that political parties can mail out postal vote application forms.
The envelope Juliet received during the week looked like an official Electoral Commission document (pictured above). When I saw it I asked why had she applied for a postal vote? She hadn’t.
Inside was a letter from Mount Gambier Liberal candidate Steve Perryman and a postal vote application form branded with his image and contact details.
Incredible. I received one as well.
I’m not only having a go at Mr Perryman or the Liberals here. Labor does it as well.
Apparently it’s common practice among the major parties in seats they really want to win.
Surely the Electoral Commission should be the only organisation that’s allowed to mail out postal vote application forms and then only at the request of a voter.
The major parties have a vested interest in allowing this DECEPTIVE practice to continue.
Legislation should prohibit the practice. What chance of that happening while both major parties engage in this misleading behavior?
Liberal Party postal vote form
I applied for a postal vote after receiving mine in the mail, just because it suits me better.
I did not have a witness signature though, so if it doesn’t work out, I will have to rock up to the polling booth on election day.
