Seasons down under
We had a mild spring-like day, with a maximum of just under 18 degrees. This is the warmest it’s been since early May and gave a clear contrast to snow last week and earlier this week.
It’s meant to rain tomorrow and Saturday, but that’s not unusual for Spring, which is generally the wettest time of year. The rivers are flowing strongly and everything is green and lush.
Spring in Australia doesn’t officially begin until September 1. I think our seasons are out of whack with what the textbooks say. I would describe them (for North East Victoria) thus:
Summer: November 1 to March 15
Autumn: March 16 to May 15
Winter: May 16 to August 15
Spring: August 16 to October 31.
Of course, there are many parts of Australia that are either hot or less hot, wet or dry.
