Election result

November 26, 2005 ·

Sixty percent of the vote has been counted and I can’t win a seat on council. This is my official “concession”.

I’ve opened a beer and will fire up the barbie soon. Life goes back to normal.

I’m actually relieved that I didn’t win. That shows, I suppose, I’m not a very good politician!

You’re probably too nice to be a very good politician!

    Sorry you didn’t win.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

The beer and the barbie sound like a good idea. (Win or lose.)

Thanks. I’ve had the night to reflect and I really am relieved. It wasn’t a loss so much as a victory for family life.

It’s ironic Michael that you lose and open a beer, whereas one of the guys who won was drinking it all the way through! When and if he sobers up he might resign and retire to the bar.

Michael: The community have had a BIG loss with you not being elected to Council, in particular Porepunkah. Please accept my condolences on your loss.

Thanks Barb. Part of my analysis is that it’s tough for anyone from Porepunkah to get elected. Many Porepunkah people, especially new arrivals, think of themselves as living in Bright, and probably voted for Bright candidates.

Bright people tend to vote for their own, although in this election I think many Bright votes went to outside candidates. That’s why there is only one in seven from the Bright area.
