Word Press upgrade

January 7th, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in Technology

I upgraded this web site’s publishing tool today to Word Press version 2. I was hesitant to do so given some negative comments regarding plugins and themes, but with some rare time on my hands before the new jobs starts I decided to give it a go.

It all went smoothly. The only plugin that appears to not be working is the “bot check” on comments, an image verification tool to prevent spam.

The upgrade though comes with spam killer Akismet, which I’ve activated instead.

I’ve had a problem getting the rich text editor to work in Firefox 1.5 using Suse, but I’m not fussed about that.

I can’t say I’ve noticed many changes with the new version, but most of them are said to be “under the hood”. I’m glad it’s done now. Future upgrades will be easier, I expect.

In registering for Akismet I discovered www.wordpress.com, which offers a free blog hosting service. I recommend this to anyone who’s interested.
