New PC and Windows Vista
We have a new Dell Dimension PC running Windows Vista. Setup yesterday went well enough.
It’s always exciting to unwrap a new computer and get it going. It’s like getting a new car; the smell is unique.
First impressions of Vista are positive. That’s all they are though at the moment, just impressions, so anyone stumbling across this entry expecting a detailed review won’t be getting one. I might write a review in a week or so.
I like the sleek polish of the desktop. I haven’t had time to explore all the new features but Windows Media Centre and the photo management tools look useful.
I’m less enthused after my first look at Word 2007. It’s just so different to previous versions. It wasn’t intuitive for simple tasks like printing. I’ll spend some quality time checking it out properly because I’ve heard it’s terrific once you get used to it.
The only negative so far was trying to install Quark Xpress 7. It’s not suitable for Vista.
