Toddler computer rage
March 10th, 2007 | 1 Comment
I suspect that toddler computer rage is a relatively new phenomenon. We had a computer when Kathleen and Michael were little, but they weren’t allowed on it and didn’t really start using it until they were seven or eight.
We now have three computers, including one that’s pretty much free for James and Margaret to use. I’ve tended to keep computers when I upgrade, rather than sell them or get rid of them.
The twins are three years old but they are already able to play simple games. James loves the various penguin games on Suse Linux. He’s a sore loser though. When his penguin dies he sometimes throws things to the floor or smacks the screen.
Curiously, Margaret spends much less time on the computer.

my son was two when he started playing games on our computer and at three he is currently more knowledgable than a lot of my friends! he knows how to get into the start menu using the keyboard and find whatever program he is looking for- just by looking for the right pictures. he does fabulously- if that’s all you want him to do… he gets enraged when you try to use the computer and screams when he can’t beat a level. we have removed almost all the games from the computer that are not educational so that we feel better about his time spent on the computer but we realize we have to do something more. i am going to try setting a timer onthe desk. we’ll see how that works.
