Daylight saving finishes

March 23rd, 2007 | No Comments

The first year of the daylight saving trial finishes in Western Australia this weekend and most people are relieved.

In regional areas the summer is so hot you just want the sun to go down at the end of the day.

The government, through its Sport and Recreation Department, claimed daylight saving would promote a healthy lifestyle because people would have more time for exercise in the evening.

In Kalgoorlie during January and February it’s often unsafe to exercise until the sun goes down.

And now the days are getting shorter it’s dark until 6.45am so there’s not much time for any meaningful activity before going to work in the morning.

I was interested to read in The West Australian that many Perth people also oppose daylight saving for different reasons.

Athletes don’t like the dark mornings and restaurateurs don’t like the fact people are dining later to avoid the sun. Parents are unhappy their little ones can’t go to sleep until it’s dark at 9pm.

I can’t see the need for a three-year trial. People have already made up their minds. Have your say here or in the forum.
