AFL 2007 season predictions
It’s that time of year when AFL followers get excited about the coming season. St Kilda fan Ray Dixon has unsurprisingly, but perhaps somewhat tragically, tipped his under-performing Saints to win the big one in September.
One good thing about having a new coach is that St Kilda will presumably develop a new game plan. The old one didn’t take them very far.
Having no real interest in the AFL, apart from a fleeting fancy for the Lions, I can take an objective view.
Grand final: Sydney v Fremantle.
Top eight: Sydney, Fremantle, Adelaide, Bulldogs, Port Adelaide, St Kilda, Geelong, West Coast.
Wooden spoon: North Melbourne. Brownlow: Chris Judd.
Biggest news: Kangaroos relocate to Gold Coast.
Biggest controversy: Top AFL officials (not players) test positive for drugs.
I’ll open the time capsule in September to see how I fared.

After tonight’s performance in the season-opener Michael, it looks like the new coach has instilled a bit of Sydney’s game plan into the multi-talented Saints.
Undermanned without Riewoldt, Hamill, Hudghton & Voss and with Koschitzke, Hayes & Maguire all making shaky resumptions from serious injuries, the Saints played a brand of hard tackling and manning up that was missing under Thomas.
Result: Saints by 30 points over the Demons. I thought Gehrig was B.O.G., he just made his presence felt all over the forward line filling in the void for Reiwoldt. Next week it’s Lions v Saints at the Gabba. How many goals in would you like?
Do I sound a little over excited? Well yes I am!
Re your tips for the final 8, the order might be different but we’ve named the same teams to make the finals except I’ve got West Coast out and Richmond in.
Which top AFL officials do you suspect might be into the “snow”? Demetriou was interviewed on 7 at half time about the drugs issue and he sounded a bit out of himself!
Early days Ray, neither of us rated Melbourne.
Ross Lyon was involved with one of my favorite Fitzroy memories. The year I lived in Melbourne (1991) he kicked the winning goal against North Melbourne at Princes Park.
I picked the Saints last night. It was the margin game in our tipping competition and I had them winning by 17 points.
Not sure about next week. Let’s see how the Lions go against Hawthorn. Bradshaw is a big loss.
