Politicians and funny hats

April 7th, 2007 | 1 Comment

I was beginning to fear that funny hats had been abolished from Australian politics after John Hewson’s sorry experiences in 1993. However, it’s pleasing to see the Goldfields are at the cutting edge of reintroducing the funny hat.

I scanned this clipping from today’s Kalgoorlie Miner. Barry Haase (Santa hat)  is the Federal Liberal MP. Paul Robson (pink bunny ears) is the Labor pre-selection frontrunner, and Tony Crooke (women’s fashion hat) is the Nationals’ Senate candidate.

All three are distinguished Goldfielders and it’s great to see them as champions of the funny hat revival.

I remember Hewson wearing a McDOnald’s hat flipping hamburgers. Those were the days.
