Internet Archive Machine

April 19th, 2007 | No Comments

The Internet Archive Wayback Machine offers hours of browsing fun. The archive contains 100 terabytes and 10 billion web pages archived from 1996 to the present.

You simply enter a web address to be taken back in time to cached pages of that site. This is potentially embarrassing for web site owners.

My own site isn't too bad, but it's interesting to check the record of its progress from a few static pages to various content management systems and blogs.

My web site in February 2005

The first one (left) is from September 2000 and was plain HTML. It was used for my consulting business at that time, rather than as a personal site (click picture to see full size).

The second one (centre) is from August 2003 and was developed using CMSimple. It included personal and family history information with a link to my then blog.

The final example (right) is from February 2005. That was a blog site created with Pivot, shortly before I switched to WordPress. I liked Pivot a lot but comment spam drove me away.
