The Sharks defeated the Blues in Super 14 rugby last night and the Bulls defeated the Crusaders to set up an all South African final next week in Durban.
Since living in Western Australia I have followed the Force but I still have an interest in my original team, the Brumbies. It was disappointing that no Australian side made the finals. I think the Brumbies might have won it if they had.
The dire straits of Queensland rugby leaves me lamenting the state of the sport in this country. I really can’t see the Wallabies winning the World Cup and I wonder if we will ever win a Super 14 tournament again.
If the competition expands I’d like to see it take in teams from Japan, Namibia and the Pacific Islands, rather than Argentina. There could be two zones of 10 teams each, with a playoff between the top two teams from each zone.
