Journalist vacancy
I’ve had a permanent vacancy for a senior journalist for most of this year. There’s a shortage of journalists in Western Australia at the moment.
I’ve discussed this with other editors and university lecturers. It seems that many graduates drift into public relations, political work or other careers.
I prefer not to employ graduates anyway. I don’t mind hiring people with degrees but I like them to have at least a year’s on-the-job experience.
All our junior and mid-level positions are currently filled but I’ve had trouble recruiting a senior journalist. I thought I had one from New Zealand until she accepted another offer elsewhere. I thought I had found a promising mid-level reporter from Perth but today she turned me down because her husband didn’t want to relocate without first having a job.
I’ve advertised on CareerOne. If an experienced journalist reads this post and wants a new challenge in WA please give me a call.

Have you tried the employment firm YES, Michael? The one owned by Kevin Rudd’s wife. I hear they work cheap.
