God bless Gerry Kane
My cousin Gerry Kane died of cancer today. He was a year younger than me. Because he lived in Western Australia while I was in the eastern states, we only met a few times.
He was a lot of fun to be around and I remember those times with great pleasure, especially my sister’s wedding and my first visit to Perth.
When I moved to Western Australia Gerry was living in Singapore.
Gerry was the General Manager - South East Asia for Don Russell Homes. He also served when he was younger in the Royal Australian Air Force.
He was a top bloke with a terrific sense of humor: a great loss
Sadly, my last contact with him was nearly a year ago, when he wrote:
Bloody hell mate, time flies!!! Didn’t realize your kids are already at that age. I will be here in Perth probably until late September /early October, all going well. Hope to be back in Singapore by October for a golf event in Chiang Mai, Thailand at the end of the month. So, depending when in September you are planning to come down, I may be able to catch up………………sure would be good to catch up.
God bless you Gerry.

Michael,
I knew Gerry well in Singapore. I'm back in London now but spoke to him very shortly before he died. He was a top boy. When I left Southeast Asia a year ago I never dreamed I'd had my last VB with him. I'll miss the old reprobate.
God bless him indeed and all the best to you.
David Cottle.
David, I regret I didn't know him better. I know how much his brothers and sisters loved him. Thanks for sharing a friend's perspective.
Michael,
I also was one of Gerry's mates in Singapore. Spent the night before he passed at his place (with a couple of dozen other mates) having a chat and stirring him up a bit. Send me an email and I will send you a ton of pics I have of him through the years (passed on to me from all his mates). Will be passing them to his brother Lawrie on Saturday at the service in Perth.
We really miss him here mate, he was a huge part of all our lives.

we met gerry 5 years ago while living in kuala lumpur…through mutual friend…spent many happy nights with him in kl as well as singapore…was a great outgoing guy who showed us nothing but friendship….unfortunatley we returned to uk 4 years ago and stayed in contact via regular emails until end of june this year…why does it happen to the good guys??? our deepest sympathies to family..was a pleasure to know him and will always have special place in our hearts and will always remember the good times forever xxx
Gerry was a loveable rogue whose ability to amuse with a story was unsurpassed.
Although I met him in KL, it was on a flight to Mauritius that he endeared himself to me… by sharing his nicotene inhaler.
He was a gentleman who always returned what he borrowed. Frankly, I wish he'd kept the handcuffs; with a straight face, he gave them back in front of my boss!
