Dumb down

According to my latest check of the web site grader I should be aiming to dumb down this web site. On August 18 the “readability level” was assessed as being 11th grade.

This score measures the approximate level of education necessary to read and understand the web page content. In most cases, the content should be made to be simple so that a majority of the target audience can understand it.

I’ve never given any thought to the “target audience” of this web site, which is a personal journal, but as a journalist I try to communicate to people at all levels.

To compare my score I checked leading US blogger Delmer and his readability is “sixth grade”. I have to wonder how the computer figures this out.
