Kalgoorlie and the Super Pit

The Super Pit

Here are some pictures I took today while taking Michael, James and Margaret for a drive. We went to the Mount Charlotte lookout and the Super Pit lookout.

The Super Pit is 3.8km long, 1.35km wide and 500m deep, and it's going to get bigger. Check out the size of the trucks in the right-hand picture below compared with cranes and cars.

KCGM produces up to 850,000oz of gold every year and the Super Pit is the biggest open pit gold mine in the country. The operating partners are international gold giants Newmont and Barrick.
