Skywest flight to Melbourne
I flew with Skywest from Kalgoorlie to Melbourne today.
It was a pleasant three-hour trip, much better than the 6-7 hour trek via Perth.
Update: The first part of this post was typed on my pocket PC in Victoria. I’m back home in Kalgoorlie now. The Skywest service is fantastic, I can’t speak highly enough.
This morning I woke up at 6am eastern time (4am western), drove 10 minutes to Melbourne Airport, checked in, drank a coffee, boarded, departed at 8am (eastern) snoozed on the plane and by 10am (western) was at my office desk.
Cutting out the Perth leg, an extra wait and a second flight is just terrific. The service on Skywest was great too.
Sadly for them, there were only 37 passengers on the plane. Being Monday morning I expected to see some mine workers or company executives, but all the travellers seemed to be holiday makers.
Even with the Kalgoorlie-Boulder council subsidy I can’t see Skywest running this service indefinitely unless they regularly have 70 or more passengers. Hopefully they can build up the numbers because I’d hate to see it stopped.
