A highlight of my walk yesterday was coming close to a magnificent wedge-tailed eagle. I was hiking along the ridge of the Great Dividing Range at an altitude of about 1300 metres towards Mount Selwyn when a majestic bird glided onto a snowgum about 30 metres away from me.
I walked to within about 10 metres before it jumped gracefully to the next tree. The wingspan must have been at least six feet.
