Gambier Centrals Soccer Club

Watching under 12 soccer at Gambier Central.Michael’s under 12 team won 6-0 today and Michael set up five of the goals.

The Gambier Centrals Soccer Club was established in 1962 as part of Sports Club Holland. From the club’s website:

“Our opponents for the first year (1963) were Millicent, Croatia and International. During this year, players had to be of Dutch origin to be members of the team which used Manhatten Reserve as its home ground. The 1963 season provided little success, and because of this, two significant changes were made before our second year of competition. At a meeting in August 1963, it was decided that in the best interests of keeping the soccer team operating competitively, other nationalities be allowed to become members of the side. Also during the summer of 1963-1964, Halls Reserve (Wirrina Park) was leveled and sown to provide a home ground for the coming season.”

The club established its current home ground, Holland Park, at Bishop Road in 1969. It’s a pleasant venue on the outskirts of town.

Juliet and Maggie are in the photo above. So is Sooty; you might just make out a black ball of fluff on the right-hand side.
