Pointing to a diagnosis

Finger

If a finger doctor or dermatologist happens to cruise past I would appreciate their (free) opinion regarding the lumps on the index finger of my right hand.

It started as a couple of small spots in July. Being winter and shortly after our arrival from Kalgoorlie, I thought they were chilblains, which I had once before on my toes.

The spots never itched and I thought they would just go away.

Recently, they have got worse and one has become enlarged. They also seem to be spreading.

The large one is sensitive to touch and contact is difficult avoid.

I showed a pharmacist today and she had no idea what it was, possibly a wart or eczema, but as she pointed out, if it was eczema there would probably be other outbreaks elsewhere.

We agreed I would try some chilblain cream to at least rule that out for a doctor if I have to see one.

I just found this while trawling your older posts. If you haven’t already had it dealt with, take the advice of someone who’s been there and go directly to a GP and get a referral for diagnosis.

I had a small, pin-head-sized bump on a finger that turned out to be a “big-cell tumour” (whatever the hell that is) and grew rapidly to obnoxious proportions. By the time I got it sorted it was a hospital job with general anaesthetic required. Fortunately, I could afford to go private and had a very good surgeon. This critter was in a similar position, on the side of a finger behind the distal interphalangeal joint and of similar appearance in its early days.

Just to be sure why not explore having the problem fixed by an amputation just below your shoulder.

This would permantly minimize any recurring problem, but would require intensive rehab to get over the loss of the offending arm to which your lumpy finger was attached via a hand you probably were not fond of anyway.

That’s what I tell my kids when they complain about a sore on their foot or leg. “Would you like me to chop your leg off?” I ask them.

      They soon stop complaining.

The sore on my finger has gone. Maybe it was a chilblain.

what did it turn out to be? did u ever find out? curious as i have the same thing on my hands and feet, they are not itchy.

It went away. I think it’s weather related, because I have a smaller one on my right index finger again now that’s only emerged recently this winter.

Methinks it is terminal, but then I always think if it’s fatal…just let it be quick.
Suffering is not a good look, especially if you do it slowly and painfully, and make weird noises.
