Visiting Warrnambool

I’m currently in Warrnambool, about 200km east of Mount Gambier, for a junior soccer tournament tomorrow.

I have all four of the kids with me; Juliet couldn’t make it because of work.

We decided to arrive the day before the tournament and have a look around, rather than rush the trip in one day on Sunday.

Warrnambool is only slightly bigger than Mount Gambier, but seems more metropolitan, or perhaps cosmopolitan is a better word.

It certainly has a thriving tourism industry, thanks probably to being on the coast.

The weather was warm enough today for us to spend some time on the beach. It was 30 degrees in the sun, but it felt like zero in the water.

We were spoiled by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean on our last two beach holidays at Mandurah. Southern Australia’s sea currents originate in the Antarctic.

The kids had fun though.

We were hoping to see the sound and light show Shipwrecked tonight at Flagstaff Hill, but it was booked out.

The Melbourne to Warrnambool Cycle Race finished in the town today and there are South West Games happening, so it’s pretty busy.
