MP in drink crash shame

I’ve just read The Age online version of the story MP in drink crash shame. It’s about the Liberal Member for Silvan Province, Andrew Olexander, who crashed his car into several other vehicles on Sunday morning while driving under the influence of alcohol.

The other Member for Silvan, Labor’s Carolyn Hirsh, was also charged with drink driving earlier this year. There must be something in the air in those leafy eastern suburbs.

I’m interested in The Age’s description of Olexander as an MP. I’ve always believed the correct protocol was only to apply the MP acronym to members of the Lower House, meaning that Olexander should be described as an MLC.

That’s pedantic maybe, but The Age should not have made this next error: “Senior Liberals said the incident would make it difficult for him to win pre-selection to contest his Silvan Province electorate at the 2006 state election.”

The Upper House has been reformed and Silvan Province won’t exist at the next election. What chance The Age will publish a correction?
