Winters Hill walk

July 11th, 2004 | No Comments

One of my favorite local walks is up Winters Hill. It’s not listed in any tourist brochures, perhaps because it’s in Porepunkah, rather than the iconic Bright.

The walk follows rarely used forestry tracks and winds up four levels of the hill. Each level offers a different view, with the third being the most spectacular. The elevation is at least 100 metres above the town, looking across to Mount Porepunkah.

The summit can be approached from several different angles, each presenting different terrain and scenery. The full walk takes about one and a half hours, but there are shorter and longer variations.

I took Margaret with me today in the backpack, and she loved every minute of it. She’s on my lap now while I’m typing, which poses a challenge I’m about to end.
