
The Summer Cup was raced today at Mount Gambier. Apparently it’s one of the biggest events on the local racing calendar after the Gold Cup in May.
None of these meetings are as big as anything in Race Round at Kalgoorlie, but they are significant to the industry.
The Glenburnie Racecourse has problems with drainage and the Gold Cup is generally raced in wet conditions.
Today the weather was fine and the track firm.
The Border Watch sponsored a race and I was invited to be on our table in the members stand, which kept me well away from the actual horses and any threat of sneezing.
I made a few dollars on the day, which is always better than losing.
The attendance was maybe 500 people, most of whom stayed in the shade.
