I ordered a Nikon D60 camera yesterday from Sydney and it arrived today. It’s always exciting to get a new camera.
The newspaper purchased one of these earlier and I really liked the feel of it.
I spent hours agonising between the D60 and the D80, but went with the newer, smaller camera.
Most “serious” photographers in forums recommend the D80 because it has more features, but I figured I would never use most of them.
I’m very happy with my purchase.
I’ve set the camera to store pictures on the 8GB memory card in both RAW and JPG format.
Originally I couldn’t get Photoshop to recognise the Nikon raw format, but I eventually found the right plugin.
My first pictures of Sooty are below. They were taken on an auto setting and saved in raw image format.
The originals were much too dark and I couldn’t believe how easy it was to lighten them without compromising image quality. I’m hooked!

Wow that’s amazing!!!!
Hello Michael !
I think you did the right choice getting the D60,
like you said the D80 has toooo many features,
and it’s good to have a “small” camera!
These photos of Sootie are great! And it was just the first trying!
I just can’t wait to see how beautiful will be the shots you are going to take with your new amazing camera!
P.S. did you already choose a name for it?
see you !

Sooty is living the life of every top dog. Sleeping on a human bed. This has to be pooch paradise.
The camera thingo…not for me!
I would need a book of instructions to explain the book of instructions.
A bit too intense.
I am just not strong enough!
What else is a too hard basket for anyway?
