Me reading the newspaper to Dracula, Karate Kid and Little Red Riding Hood.
Book Week has just concluded in South Australian schools.
I was invited to read from the newspaper to children at Suttontown Primary School today. It was a mixed group of children from Reception (age 5) to Year 7 (12), so it was difficult to know what to read.
I chose a story about a three-legged kelpie and another about high school students speaking to American astronauts by radio link.
That seemed to hold their attention for 20 minutes.
The staff and students all dressed up today as fictional characters. The principal commended me on the ingenuity of coming dressed as a newspaper editor.
I asked the children to explain the difference between fiction and non-fiction; they all seemed to know.
I told them newspapers are non-fiction … most of the time.
The picture shows me reading the kelpie story to Dracula, Karate Kid and Little Red Riding Hood.

Very cute, the kids.
Why didn’t you go dressed as a wolf Michael? maybe a newspaper editor image is safer, and does not involve getting out of your comfort zone, too much imagination for the kids to deal with…you dressed as a wolf??
Dracula & Karate Kid would have had you for lunch, anyway!
Looks like you had a great day, and it was lovely storyline and photo.

Sorry you didn’t consider me cute as well, Ebony. I was a little nervous having Dracula behind me, although she gave me a lovely card and chocolate after the reading.
