The science of babies

April 6th, 2004 | No Comments

Juliet went to Wangaratta today for a session with a nurse who specialises in teaching parents how to settle babies. Margaret has proved a handful in this regard, often crying without any apparent reason, although we knew she was generally tired at these times.

There were four mums there from different parts of the North East. Basically we learnt that our babies need to sleep more during the day, and the signs of tiredness to look out for. When the babies get over tired, and start screaming as Margaret does, you’re supposed to put them down and refrain from eye contact until they go to sleep.

And it works. We saw immediate results today, and as the nurse predicted, both babies went to sleep easier tonight. She also thinks they will feed less often during the night as they establish a better sleep routine.
