A new payment scam?

May 5th, 2005 | 2 Comments

I had a spam email today offering to transfer $1490 to my account. All I had to do was login to this new payment gateway called Infra-Pay, give them my account details, etc and the cash would be mine.

I bothered to read it in Mailwasher before deleting it only because I recently set up a PayPal facility for my web hosting.

A quick Google search for Infra-Pay revealed little, but the main domain, I discovered, diverts to a Russian web site.

If anyone out there really wants to send me $1490 please contact me or use PayPal. I’m sure it can be made tax deductible.

    Hi Michael,

My domain has been used by these spammers in the From address. I am going through some paperwork to report this matter in full to the Federal Police.
every email has the same amount and the same biller code. The infra-pay website that comes up off the links provided is totally bogus. I’ve never sent/received email using this domain, so I presume I have simply been unlucky to have been picked/used in this fashion. I have received countless calls. The spam scam must be very widespread.

    cheers

    Hi Greg,
Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you’ll get a result with the authorities.
