Mozilla browser

May 13th, 2005 | No Comments

Curiosity got the better of me today and I downloaded the latest version of the Mozilla browser. It’s a hefty 11MB, which I scheduled to download at a quiet time of the day on my slow dial-up connection.

I’m very happy with Firefox, so this was just an experiment.

I’m pleased with the test, but can’t see myself switching from Firefox for everyday use.

Mozilla unsurprisingly reminds me of the Netscape browser it’s connected with. Netscape was my first browser of choice when I started using the Internet in 1995.

I switched Mozilla’s default theme to “modern” and instantly felt more comfortable. It bears more resemblance to Firefox than Netscape.

Mozilla’s trump is that it comes with added features such as email/news, composer and address book. I’m still happy though to run these separately in Thunderbird and Dreamweaver.

The actual browsing is fast and pleasant. I guess if you’re looking for a total package with email integration then Mozilla fits the bill. If not, you’ll probably be happy to choose horses for courses like me.

I read on the web tonight that attempts are being made to port Novell’s Evolution to Windows. It’s an excellent program in Linux and I’ll be pleased to see it succeed in the Windows environment.
