Windows OneCare

May 14th, 2005 | No Comments

According to Beta News, Microsoft is about to start testing Windows OneCare.

This is Microsoft’s entry into the world of anti-virus, firewall and anti-spyware through an integrated package. It’s ironic in a way that operating system flaws have created an industry to protect computers from outside attack.

By all accounts the anti-virus companies are nervous about this new venture, with good reason given Microsoft’s size and influence, and many people’s propensity to want a single solution.

I’m curious to see what it will be like and signed up for the beta testing, although there’s no guarantee I’ll be chosen.

I like the concept of where Microsoft is heading with this product and I hope it succeeds.

That’s not to say there shouldn’t be choice of anti-virus and firewall tools and I’m confident that will continue. If the existing companies have good products their customers will remain loyal, and there will always be a number of people who just don’t want anything to do with Microsoft.

Generally, I like to explore and use alternatives when they’re available, but I treat each situation on its merits.
