Stuck

I’ve been feeling a bit like this lately. Thanks to Antman for the picture.

Election night drinking game

This is a funny post by Dave from Albury. I won’t repeat it here, so follow the link if you’re interested.
I won’t be playing the game. I have to work next Sunday, and with my political journalist away it will fall to me to report the election. Saturday night will be fairly relaxed, but I’m [...]

Dildos in the news

We had dildos in the paper today; the word “dildos” that is. Our reporter attended a public meeting on Tuesday night, called to discuss issues of concern regarding the Kalgoorlie Hospital.
A local doctor said the hospital was “overrun by administrative dildos”.
This prompted some discussion on the subs desk about how to spell the plural of [...]

Giving a sperm sample

I don’t know what prompted me to think of this subject today. Probably it was a repressed memory which must have been triggered by something. Certainly it was a memory I had banished from my conscious mind.
After Michael was born in 1996 Juliet decided to have no more children. It wasn’t something I agreed with, [...]

Lamb by Christopher Moore

I’m currently reading Lamb by Christopher Moore. It’s the fictional (obviously) story of Biff, Christ’s childhood friend, and it describes the first 30 years of Jesus’ life.
It’s very funny and the story, although possibly blasphemous in a literal sense, isn’t offensive in my view.
The pair travels the world seeking out the Three Wise Men. I’m [...]

Kevin Rudd: Fiscal conservative

Labor leader Kevin Rudd proclaimed himself a “fiscal conservative” this week and The Australian cartoonist Bill Leak followed the theme on Saturday, May 12, 2007.
The cartoon above is after “round three” of the fight. The first round shows Rudd and Howard in their corners. Howard asks Costello: “Quick, put in my my teeth” and Rudd [...]

Gullible information

The last few posts have been on the serious side, so here is some light relief. Unsurprisingly (because the web is all encompassing) there’s a web site devoted to discussion about rumours and so-called facts. It’s called Gullible.info. There’s a Fact Check Forum to discuss which are true or otherwise.
I’ve extracted a few discussion starters [...]

Stumble upon God’s law

I’m having a lot of fun with Stumble Upon, which connects people with web sites according to their areas of interest. Mine for starters were politics, technology, internet, journalism and satire.
I think it was the last of those which led me to this site headlined: Why can’t I own a Canadian? Think New Zealander instead [...]

The Fifth Woman

The Fifth Woman is the first novel that I’ve read by Swedish crime writer Henning Mankel. I saw a positive review of his work in The Age last year and purchased the book while in Melbourne between Christmas and New Year.
His main character, Inspector Kurt Willander, is a thoughtful introspective man who reflects on societal [...]

Email from heaven?

I know I’m not supposed to click on my own Google ads, but I couldn’t resist checking out one for Heaven’s Mail. The service promotes itself as an “Eternal Portal” providing an online memorial which survives when you don’t.
You can send e-cards and email automatically from beyond the grave to remind loved ones of your [...]
