St Michael’s prep class 1972

This is my first school photo: prep at St Michael’s, Traralgon, in 1972. Interesting to note there were 38 children in the class.
I still remember some of the kids. I think 1972 was the only year for me that boys had to wear ties as part of the uniform, or maybe it lasted another couple of years.
After that we wore red skivvies in winter and just the grey shirts in summer.
I only have good memories of primary school.

Old school tie
I feel that my old school has been wiped from history. I started form one (year seven) at St Paul’s College, Traralgon, in 1979. I progressed to year 11 at the co-educational Lourdes College in 1983 and finished my high school education there in 1984.
These schools no longer exist, because of amalgamations, and their histories seem to be poorly acknowledged on the web.
When I started in 1979 the Marist Brothers ran St Paul’s College. The principal was Br Doug Walsh, who was a cousin of the television personality Mike Walsh. The other Marists who taught me were Br Aubrey (maths), Br Chris (Duke of Edinburgh and sport) and Br Ken (English literature at Lourdes). Read more
Slide show
I went with Dude to a “slide show” at Porepunkah Primary School last night, featuring pictures and narrative from his recent camp.
It wasn’t really a slide show in the way that it used to be when I was a kid, but the idea was the same.
The photographs were all digital and they were presented on a TV screen that was connected to a computer.
The kids obviously had a lot of fun and it was good to see their photographs and hear them describe their experiences.
