It looks good, loads fast and gives useful information. Wordnik is far superior to any other web dictionary I’ve seen.

A key feature is that words are shown in context. Along with definitions, example sentences show how the word is used.

There are also links to the word’s usage on Twitter and Flickr.

All up, it’s just an incredibly neat package. I’ve bookmarked the site in my toolbar and plan to use it extensively.

And it’s free.

In the Wordnik FAQ they modestly proclaim: “We figure that once we have at least some information for every word in English, updated in real time, world domination will just fall in our laps.”

It’s the dominant online dictionary as far as I’m concerned.

There are probably dozens of my inactive accounts floating around various parts of the web.

Two that I get enthusiastic about occasionally, forget about, and then return to are Twitter and Tumblr.

The difference between Tumblr and a normal blog is meant to be that items are shorter, with more emphasis on pictures, video and links of interest.

Update (December 28, 2011): Interesting that I selected these two services as worthy of the long haul. They have stood the test of time since 2008.

I’m still using both, but Tumblr to a lesser extent. Picture posting on Twitter has taken away the advantage that Tumblr used to have in that regard.

On logging in I was greeted with this announcement:

And yes, there are two different dates quoted there. I think they mean it’s closing on July 15.

I appreciate the fact they gave notice, but this shutdown doesn’t inspire confidence in any new webmail venture.

I’m holding back on greater use of Zenbe, GMX and Orgoo until I see how they fare.

Gmail is such a great product it’s hard to see others gaining traction. Competition is good, choice is good. Hopefully a couple of the challengers gain enough traction to stay in the marketplace.

I’m currently testing the “virtual office” which is an online equivalent of Outlook.

I’m typing this in Zoho Writer, which has the ability to publish directly to a blog. Writer can also open Microsoft Word documents.

Documents can be saved online and shared with others for collaboration.

I actually think Zoho is ahead of Google in this field at the moment.
