The topic of Morant as hero or villain has created new interest in Australia as well as here in South Africa. New information and documents are being found and I believe the relatives of the victims murdered by Morant and others are forming a group to oppose the “pardon” effort. I hope to provide more info as well as give details of a new book to be published soon. You might find it interesting that 35 victims have so far being identified murdered by Morant and friends.

Regarding the Visser case, after Visser was taken prisoner Morant searched and questioned Visser and found items of British uniform, including a pair of trousers which he believed was that of Hunt’s, but was later proved to be of much older origin. I found this information from Wikipedia.

Witton did shoot a Boer in self defence becuse that Boer tried to seize his rifle.

There were various witnesses in the Heese case.

The evidence of Africans who implicated the officers were ignored for racist reasons.

A boer who saw Handcock at the scene also testified.

Troopers testified that Handcock left their camp in pursuit of Heese.

Handcock made a confession that he killed Heese.

Witton refferred to it as a most cold blooded affair!

They had no problem ignoring the alleged order before Hunt’s death.

They had no problem ignoring Hunt’s alleged order after Hunt’s death either. Witton transported prisoners to Pietersburg and indicates he did not have the hart to tell Boer girls that they had no home to go back to since they had burnt it to the ground.

Troy you should read up on the facts and not become a sucker and believe the nonsense a person is telling Australians in his quest for fame and fortune.

Regarding the missionary shooting, the entire case was based on the testimony of one trooper, and there is good reason to suspect that Heese may in fact have been killed by a Boer sniper, since he was shot once, from the front. I found this information from Wikipedia and my previous statement I heard on the news.

Breaker Morant and Hancock & Witton followed by orders that no prisoners were to be taken started by the late Captain Hunt and orders continued personally by Captain Taylor. I suspect Colonal Hamilton issued these orders.

Oliver, your statement has no base in the truth, I suggest you read:

“Breaker Morant and the Bushveldt Carbineers” by Arthur Davey 1987

“Closed file” by Kit Denton.

And (Witton’s) letter to Major Thomas dated 21 Oct 1929 that: “I consider I am the one and only one that suffered unjustly (apart from yourself)”.

Reverend Heese was neutral. He helped a British spy receive medical treatment, then he became aware of the murder of 8 civilians and was on his way to report this in Pietersburg when he was murdered at Bandolier Kop.
