Crocodile warning sign

It’s another grey day on the Carpricorn Coast, no rain again though.

I read in a tourist brochure that Farnborough Beach is very nice and good for surfing.

We had trouble finding it because there are no signs. Eventually I followed my instinct and a side road took us directly there.

It wasn’t very inviting. A crocodile warning sign suggested we get right out of there.

The beach itself was covered in debris, probably washed ashore in the recent cyclone.

The beaches closer to Yeppoon must have been cleaned up, or perhaps are less exposed.

We took the kids into Yeppoon and they played on a wire climbing tower called the Spacenet.

I’m glad you chose the spacenet over the crocodile infested waters!

Noticed you on a twitter last week Michael, sounds like you’ve been enjoying the area :-) . Just hope we get some clear sky’s soon. My name’s Jylan btw, I run yeppooninfo.com which is an info site for this region.

You’ve got some fantastic pictures on this blog, love the action shot of the waterslide.

Thanks Jylan, I checked out your site before coming to Yeppoon.

We’re enjoying it so far, but really hope to see the sun for a few days before we leave next Thursday.

Jylan, quick answer: I found the site on Google using “Yeppoon” as the search query. I was looking for a locally maintained site instead of the generic national travel sites.

I liked the photos and the localities information.

The forum is a good idea. Perhaps do away with a login requirement (but moderate posts) to make it a Q&A forum.

I was looking for information about places (which your site covers) and attractions (less so).

From our point of view we’d like a list of local places to see (how to get there, cost, etc) and a dining guide.

We booked a holiday house online to stay, so accommodation venues didn’t interest us by the time I discovered your site.

It depends what your goals are and how much time you have. I think there’s a market for a locally maintained comprehensive information site.

Or you could start simple with good photos, brief text descriptions and a forum using Google Adsense if you just want to cover costs.

Feel free to email me if you want to discuss this privately (mgorey @ gmail).

Hi Michael, just curious, do you remember what search query you used to find my site? What do you think of the content and usefulness as a visiter to Yeppoon?
