Daylight saving in South Australia

I’ve written several times about daylight saving time. I wrote how I don’t agree with it in Western Australia, but mentioned it was okay in Mount Gambier (South Australia).

daylight saving South AustraliaThat’s true for the summer holidays, but now it’s March I’m sick of daylight saving and want it to end.

The main problem is that mornings are unnaturally dark.

I like to go for a walk before work. That means setting the alarm for 6am or thereabouts. Unfortunately it’s dark now until about 6.30am.

Without daylight saving the dawn would be around 6am, perfect.

Extra daylight at the end of the day benefits hardly anyone at this time of year.

My opinion is that daylight saving in eastern Australia should run from December 1 to January 31.

Ours starts this coming Sunday, which means I’ll lose my beautiful, warm dawns. I miss them already.

I read this title as “Daylight Saving in USA” and wondered how you knew it was coming up and, I guess, how our daylight savings affected Australians.

I was just talking about this with my son this morning. It was sort of daylight at 7 a.m. as I drove him to school and I mentioned that next week it would be dark again.

The upcoming longer evenings mean I’ll get out on the bike a bit … and that’s good as Oatmeal Raisin cookies have taken a toll on me this winter. (Assuming the weather holds through next week. It’s going to hit 70F (21C) this weekend.)

Of course, the dark morning mean I won’t likely ride *to* work.

Im in favour of daylight saving. I agree with the earlier starting date to the first week in October.
I DO NOT however agree that daylight saving should have been extended into April, that was not necessary.

What must be considered is the mornings are comparatively lighter in October than they are in March due to the elliptical orbit of the Earth around the sun. Dark mornings will never be a problem in October but they sure can be in late March.

I do not so much have a problem with daylight saving in March, I guess Im used to now, but I certainly think that ending daylight saving on the last Sunday in March is quite late enough. The first Sunday in April is pushing it too far.

A daylight saving period from the first sunday in October to the last Sunday in March would be more realistic

Ill take back the last line of my sentence from my last article. I actually think that an agreement can be worked out to end daylight saving sometime during the month of March where the population is given an opportunity to voice their opinions on the matter. April should be totally excluded from daylight saving, God help us in 2013 when daylight saving ends on 7 April FAR TOO LATE
