I’ve always been reluctant to get involved with “social networking” sites. I don’t mind Flickr for photos, but various other online communities have failed to engage my interest.
A new one has come along though called Explode. I registered early and so far I’m impressed. By signing up early I got a good user name (michaelg).
I have previously experimented with Myspace. With no disrespect to the operators and participants, myspace and others seem to be more like dating sites for young singles.
I like the fact that even with a small community (so far) Explode has a high percentage of members aged over 30. It’s possible to link with these people minus any assumption that you’re interested in a relationship. It’s also more likely (for my age group) that we’ll find people with common interests.
There are benefits in linking blogs, such as web traffic for Google ads and interaction generally, so the Explode concept is great and I hope it succeeds. And as Paula says, it’s addictive (Paula’s blog).
Update: Explode is no longer online.

Hi,
Explode is a great way to make new friends and increase ur traffic. Have you tried out myBlogLog?
Yes, I’m loving Explode! too.
And thanks for your comment and the link love above…
I also love MyBlogLog, whose widget is similar to the one from Explode!
I’ve met a lot of bloggers thru both sites.

The internet throws up some real gems occasionally. I did a tag search on Explode for journalism and discovered the magical voice of Elin Heinesen from the Faroe Islands.
I never would have thought to look for Faroese folk music, but this is sensational. Elin’s music can be heard on her myspace site.
