The Fire Horse

firehorseOn the eve of the Chinese new year I looked up my sign and rediscovered that I am a horse. Not only am I a graceful equine creature I am also a fire horse.

Fire horses are only born every 60 years. The last batch of us special types were born between January 21, 1966 and February 8, 1967.

Initial research suggested we can be rather dangerous. One description read: “Legend has it that the Fire Horse will consume everything in his path and wreak havoc wherever he goes.” The women are even worse.

However, like many things, the stereotyping of Chinese horoscopes seems to have a number of variables and if you search long enough you will find something favorable.
Naturally, I am more inclined to go with the good version. It says:

The Fire Horse is a dynamic creature, with a vigor that promises youth and freshness until the very end of life. The will and the spirit of the Fire Horse cannot be broken. This Horse goes through life with philosophical patience and the ability to bounce back from adversity no matter how dire the circumstances. In times of solitude, Fire Horses also have an insatiable need for intellectual stimulation and they satisfy their curiosity for learning through reading, listening, conversing, and travel abroad. Fire Horses make inspiring leaders, revered and respected. They encourage their subordinates with kindness and just the right degree of strictness and work well with people in all stations of life. Financial rewards fall in the middle ground, not too bad, not terrific, but always comfortable. Being in love with the Fire Horse brings pure rapture. These noble Horses are generous with their love, with hugs and kisses. Loved ones always know where they stand because Fire Horses demonstrate every day through their actions the love they feel deep within. Each day is a soft and tender love poem.

The logical part of my brain has trouble processing the fact that most people in my school year were similarly blessed or afflicted by fate. We were a flighty bunch though and the fire horse factor might explain a few things.

My self analysis of how this applies to me is more inclined, strangely enough, to accept the “dynamic, inspirational, noble, generous, etc” fire horse tag than the “malignant, cunning, selfish, etc”.

Juliet is a monkey, Kathleen is a rooster, son Michael is a rat and the twins are sheep.

    Hello,

I have just stumbled upon your site while looking more into my Chinese Horoscope. It seems that I am a fire horse as well. I found this link describing the Fire Horse personality. Do you think it holds true for you? I didn’t think the personality came out sounding as destructive as the first one you mentioned. There are plenty of good qualities there.

By the way, I like your Fire Horse pic :)

    Kimber

    Hello Kimberly,
Do you have any info for Mary Adeline Silvernail, daughter of John, married Samuel Sargent, I have no dates.
    Thank you,

    H there,

I too am a 1966 Fire Horse. I did read many years ago that my actual birthday, 1st June, marks the true fire horse. I hope I still have the book – probably do and will try and resurrect it now to clarify this. I also read that Fire Horse women usually died spinsters because no one would marry them for fear of their Fire Horse status. When I find this book, I will post further.

Thanks Katrina, I’m interested to hear what your book says. I’m a 1967 Firehorse. Are you heading for spinsterhood or did someone take the risk?

  10. rob says:

    Yep,

    alot more of us fire horseys around than I knew of;
there is also a listing of fire horse called a kirin, a bit more than just a horse and supposedly the most powerful animal in japanese mythology, dragons being 2nd; in chinese mythology dragons are the 1st and fire horses the 2nd or 3rd(a phoenix is in there too).

we fire horses have a lot of energy, strong minded, and intelligent to say the least(I’m biased)
me- july 1st, 1966, the horse is a fire sign, so being born during the 69 year cycle of the year of fire(1966) makes me a double fire horse

  11. rob says:

ammendment- the second to last line should have read, 60 instead of 69-oops!

me- july 1st, 1966, the horse is a fire sign, so being born during the 60 year cycle of the year of fire

thanks for the posts about fire horses, I enjoyed them!

It has been very interesting reading about myself. I have within the last 72 hours discovered there are a lot of fire horses. I am sept 2 1966. I could never figure out what has made me the way I am but am now aware of my personal power. However, others have known long before me and have tried to erode my personality by doing things against the fire horse. They have not succeeded and i am now more powerful than ever because I am aware. I need to find more fire horses and form an alliance. Soon!

  13. William says:

Hi my name is William Salgado and I am a fire Horse, July 17 1966. Everything that I have read about the fire horse is true when it applies to me. I can still keep up with 18 year olds. All though I am I am not too crazy about it because I always tend to hide myself from the action or take a back seat. This is because every time I go into action about anything, or take a stand in something that I believe in, I seem to get foiled with mishaps or bad luck, but yet I don’t thing that I have bad luck. I just feel like I am a misfit sometimes because I know what I am capable of, but when I try to test MY FULL potential, something goes wrong. Things work better for me when I exercise my patients to the max and just take my time. (Something that I am not us to) I can go a long way.

  14. Wendy says:

Greetings! I would be glad to hear from you soon about describing more about my characteristics through your experiences and expertise. I am a fire horse too, and a sagittarian woman born in December 20.
Indeed, I love freedom, and am married. For my 45 years in my life, I am still seeking for myself, sometimes confused, and still looking for what life would be suitable for me to become still.

  15. Andrew Graham says:

It’s nice to think we Firehorses are unique.

  16. Stefano says:

I too am a fire horse, 29 deg. Scorpio. I once read that fire horses were shunned in China because they brought shame to their family. Nothing more could be considered as detrimental in their society, so they avoided pregnancy or aborted. A large population dip can be seen during that time, 1966-1967.

I would agree that most fire horses are flighty but simultaneously ebullient; cloddish yet highly sensitive. Sinead O’Connor (12.8.66) is a good example.

There was also a very heavy, cosmic event happening at that time–according to Western astrology–(Pluto/Uranus conjunction in Virgo opposite Saturn in Pisces trining Neptune in Scorpio). I think this explains a lot regarding the above traits.

I like your positive, fire horse description and find it inspiring. I definitely second the notion that, “The will and the spirit of the Fire Horse cannot be broken”!
