I’ve had trouble getting motivated to write here for a while. It’s not that I’ve been unproductive or away from the computer … the main reason is probably that I’m spending a lot of time updating content.
I’d love to be logging on here telling you about my latest adventure; that I’m half way through cycling the silk road, currently drinking a refreshing cup of yak’s milk in Kyrgyzstan.
Alas, it is nose to the grindstone stuff.
I’m at the stage though where I need to give myself a new goal, something aspirational to work towards.
I’m happy enough at work and home. I could always do with more money in the bank, but who couldn’t?
What’s missing is a BHAG: A “big, hairy, ambitious goal”.
Cycling across Central Asia sounds great and I’ll throw it into the mix along with:
- Visiting where my Welsh/English forebears came from in the Wye Valley and walking Offa’s Dyke;
- Touring the Andes and travelling to the bottom part of South America;
- Crossing Canada from west to east;
- Riding a bicycle around the Netherlands or Denmark;
- Visiting the Antarctic;
- Touring Sri Lanka and watching a test match at Kandy or Galle;
- Spending two weeks alone with Juliet anywhere.
Yes, all of those aspirations involve travel. Five years ago I would have listed the safe arrival of a new baby and possibly some study.
I hate to think I’m on a middle-aged treadmill.
Looking at that list, the only ones that might be affordable in the next five years are travelling to England or Sri Lanka.
Either would be great. Now I have to decide and start saving.
