I’d like to like Telstra, I really would. They have the best network and they are currently majority Australian owned. They used to be our national public telco.
In addition to having the best network, you’d think one of their competitive advantages in regional Australia was having a network of Telstra shops.
I visited the Telstra Shop in Kalgoorlie today and left unimpressed.
1) My Bigpond USB wireless modem is broken. The kids were using it and I have no idea what they did. I wanted to know if it could be repaired.
The Telstra Shop offered to sell me a new modem, or suggested I call Bigpond to see if it could be fixed. They wrote Bigpond’s number on a business card for me. Very helpful.
2) I wanted a new phone charger for my iMate JasJam after leaving my main charger in Melbourne at a motel.
The Telstra Shop was out of stock, despite this being a designated Telstra phone. They suggested I go across the road to an electronics store, which happened to specialise in Motorola products and couldn’t assist.
Sigh.

Mate, I can sympathise. There really is no excuse for bad service. Check this out for another experience.

I’ve actually never heard anything good about Telstra from my Aussie friends. hrm.
The kalgoorlie telstra shop is a joke!! They never have what you want, although they happily order it in for. I needed a screen for an iPhone, it took 6 weeks to arrive, only to be the wrong one!! It’s staffed by teenagers, who couldn’t care less about service. Being the only dealer in kal, they have no reason to improve. What happened to competion & customer service?????
