Perth woman Angela Nathan created a website called “Meet a Mining Man” (no longer online, screenshot pictured).
When announced, she said the aim was to “increase the likelihood of successful, happy relationships in WA within the current resources boom”.
The website was to “provide a link between single men working on a fly in, fly out (FIFO) roster and single local women who are aware and accepting of the FIFO lifestyle.”
There are around 54,000 mining employees in Western Australia, so I think Angela is on a winner here. The sheila shortage is well documented and anything to hitch people up is sure to be popular.
And shoot me down in flames if I’m wrong, but there are plenty of gold diggers out there among the female of our species.
A handsome, witty, caring journalist earning $40,000 a year is no match in the matchmaking stakes for a bloke bringing home 200k.
Some sheilas might even see FIFO as an advantage, at least while they are unmarried and childless.
“Through Meet a Mining Man, single men with limited time to invest in seeking relationships can find women who are understanding of their FIFO schedules,” the PR states.
“Similarly, women who want the security of a relationship without sacrificing their freedom can do a simple online search for suitable and available men.”
I received an email from Angela at work today:
“I have just turned 24 and this is my first business venture. I am launching the site using creativity along with minimal resources. I believe Meet a Mining Man would interest many of your readers, as due to Perth’s geographical spread, many people find it hard to meet partners.
“From Monday May 19 I will have a temporary registration pre-launch site up where people can sign up for One Month Free Trial. The actual launch date, when the site becomes fully operational is May 30. This is when all the free trial memberships activate.”

I have worked FIFO for the past 4 years, the woman on this site are only wanting a FIFO guy cause they know they have money.
There is one woman on the site in particualar that is only in it for the money her name is (deleted) from WA and she doesn’t want a man around she just wants his sperm and his money! She has ripped men off in the past and guess what – they worked away, how do you think she became a single mother!

Seriously, not all men are in it for your money guys, take me for example, fit size 10 quite good looking, blonde, blue eyes, educated, own business and I am sure I earn as much as if not more like you, own my own house 1 rental 2 properties, and staff working for me. I have to agree in part some women go for the mining guys fifo in particular due to the fact they have money and also work away so quite possible they may have more than one, ( if this sounds harsh then i appologise), they check the rosters to see how it will work, i did fifo for a number of years and i had guys who thought yeah a single mum who works away easy target loaded with money sorry WRONG, sorry im not a easy target, i gave up fifo and decided to go residental for a while then maybe fifo again, i am still looking for my soul mate mining or non mining, mining would be better as they understand the work, i have joined a number of dating sites and still the same thing single lady money woo hoo well not going to happen, i am hoping one day someone will accept me for me, so its not only women who try and pull a swifty its the men who do it to. if there is any guys out there who are looking for a genuine mining lady then email me kmc69@live.comI live in the coastal town of onslow i work in the salt mine here and enjoy it, i am a large lady but have a nice heart and will treat any man as they would like to be treated, so if you would like to know more please email me
