Fun day in Melbourne

Melbourne Remand CentreHad a good day in Melbourne after travelling across from Adelaide by train yesterday with Maggie.

We started with breakfast in the city, followed by a visit to the Aquarium. We then caught the City Circle tram to the top end of Russell Street and went to the Old Melbourne Gaol.

A new feature since my last visit there was a tour of the old Remand Centre, which I think the guide said only closed in 1994.

It took the form of a police sergeant processing us through to the cells and leading us to the exercise yard. It was very authentic, so much that Maggie cried!

She adjusted quickly though and we had a photo taken on the way out (above). Lunch was at a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown before catching the tram back to our hotel.Melbourne Aquarium

A short rest and then it was on to Monkey Mania at Docklands, again travelling by tram.

This was okay, but frankly not worth $16.50 for entry and a cup of coffee. It’s no better than a free outdoor playground. Maggie didn’t find it as much fun as James did last year, but he was seven at the time.

Some shopping followed at Docklands, then back to the hotel. We both enjoyed the day. It was worth the hit on my wallet.

Here is video of fish being fed at the aquarium:
