Microsoft releases Acrylic beta

Microsoft has released a beta version of new graphics software called Acrylic.

It works as a vector drawing program and pixel editor, so it seems targeted at users of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I haven’t fully tested it yet, but I’m interested in finding a cheap alternative to Photoshop and this may be it.

There are many fine viewers and editors out there, but none of them can convert images to CMYK color mode, which I need for print work.

The picture of Margaret here was saved in Acrylic using its photocopy arts tool. It gives an interesting sketch effect.

Update: Acrylic is now Microsoft Expression Studio.
