It’s the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in most parts of Australia. I’ve written before that this holiday and others should be scrapped in favor of a whole new system.
It isn’t even close to the Queen’s actual birthday (April 21) this weekend. The date is possibly a throwback to the reign of George V; his birthday was June 3.
Apart from being another excuse for a holiday, the weekend marks the awarding of Queen’s birthday honors.

Milkman Tony Fowler dressed as a cow to receive his MBE from the Queen.
This year, a crime-fighting milkman from Melton Mowbray, Tony Fowler (pictured), appeared at the palace dressed in a cow suit.
He toned it down, after palace officials expressed concern, by swapping his black and white hooped trousers for plain black ones, but still wore his cow coat.
According to this report, Tony said his suit had gone down well with the Queen.
“I know she has a dairy at Windsor and I asked if I could join her herd, but she said that wouldn’t be possible because her cows are Jerseys and I was a Friesian,” he said.
