I was minutes away from having my car pulverised today, possibly with me in it. I took my car to a local garage for a service at 10.30am.
When I got back to the office we heard on the scanner that ambulance and fire crews had gone to the scene of an accident, where a driver had been trapped inside his vehicle.
It emerged the scene of the accident was the car dealership I had just returned from.
When I saw the photo I realised a car had crashed through the parking space I had (illegally) occupied minutes earlier, into the window of the auto dealership, narrowly missing a Mercedes.
It’s a glass half full debate to ponder it.
I’m lucky I wasn’t there at the time, but would have been terribly unlucky if I was.
You can’t live life wondering if you’re going to be run down any minute or have a random meteorite land on your head.
Luck has really got nothing to do with it. I was going about my ordinary life when an elderly man lost control of his vehicle at the same place I had been a few minutes previously.
I’m prejudiced against older drivers, as this previous blog post confirms.

That’s awful Michael. I am so happy to read you haven’t been killed or injured. Old people are a menace on the road. If you are too old to walk, you are too old to drive.
I just can’t get my head around why people over 70, when they go for the annual GP and eye exam, get all the boxes ticked. They get another shot at being a weapon of mass destruction as a gift for the next 12 months.
A compulsory visit to an accident & emergency trauma centre to help them decide…if that fails, I can definitely recommend a tour of the morgue.
SO SO SO glad you are OK!!!

Thanks Ebony and Sue. I never felt threatened, of course. It was only afterwards I realised how close it was.
Maybe it’s a reality of the economic times, but I was more relieved the car didn’t crushed and didn’t think about myself until later!
