Adelaide has been selected to host the world’s most important cycling planning conference after a decision by the European Cyclists Federation (ECF). According to a media statement, Adelaide was chosen to host Velo-city Global 2014 because of the city’s commitment to cycling and its capacity to host an international conference. Vienna will host the 2013 event.
I’m at a loss to understand why Cricket Australia has scheduled the KFC T20 Big Bash in the early stages of the summer and between Test series. With Australian cricket at arguably its lowest point for 25 years, players have no time to prove themselves, prepare or find form in the Sheffield Shield before the major Test series against India. I quite enjoy T20 cricket myself and believe there’s a place for it in the modern game, but not at the expense of traditional cricket or player performance.
I’ve heard the audio clip several times in which then Prime Minister Sir Robert Menzies found it his “melancholy duty” in 1939 to declare war on Germany. It was a memorable speech, perhaps the one for which Menzies is best known, along with his adulation of the Queen (I did but see her passing by).
I succumbed to temptation and bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 16GB wifi version. This device currently can’t be sold by store retailers in Australia because of a court injunction won by Apple, so it is something like forbidden fruit. I obtained it from Expansys, who presumably imported from Hong Kong or Korea. Please note this post is not a technical review. It’s a comparison of the Samsung Tab and the iPad from a user’s perspective.
These are the must-have iPad apps that I use every day. Mail: The built-in email app is the iPad tool I use the most. Whether at home or mobile, it keeps me informed of new messages in my work and personal accounts. The alerts are unobtrusive and useful. The reading pane is wide and clear; threads are easy to follow. Typing is much easier than on a phone.
