Primary school graduation

I don’t recall having a “graduation ceremony” when I finished primary school in 1978, but it seems to be in vogue now.

Michael graduated from Suttontown Primary School tonight. It’s a small school on the edge of Mount Gambier with just over 100 students.

We were fortunate to enrol him there, because we are on the boundary of two school zones.

We were looking ahead more to next year with the twins in selecting Suttontown. Siblings follow each other in the South Australian school system.

After having a wonderful experience with a small school at Porepunkah we thought it desirable for Jim and Maggie to have the same opportunity.

Michael really enjoyed his six months at Suttontown and told me it was better for him than Kalgoorlie.

There was significant turnover of teachers at Kalgoorlie, so that might have been an issue. Also there were students there who didn’t want to learn, or who had behavioral issues.

Looking at the Year 7 class list for Suttontown, there were nine boys and five girls.

All the children gave a speech tonight. Most of the boys listed Michael among their friends, but none of the girls counted any boys among theirs. These kids are 12 turning 13. It will be a different story soon enough.

I’m proud of Michael’s school performance. He’s done really well.

  1. Dina says:

Graduations for the young are becoming popular here too.

I’m not sure if they have elementary school graduations (I think that’s like your primary school) but they do have kindergarten graduations. I think it’s the norm now.

My spam words were-”Treatment safe”. Is something trying to tell me something???????
