I have a HP Pavilion G6 laptop I bought in July, which came with the promise of a cheap upgrade to Windows 8.
I installed Windows 8 as soon as I could, because this is a home machine for personal use and I wanted to test it.
The installation stalled the first time, so I started again. Now I appear to have two installations, but that hasn’t stopped me getting in.
I rather like Windows 8. It took a little while to learn my way around, but once you realise the Windows button gets you back to where you were previously it’s not too difficult.
Can’t really see why there isn’t a start menu on the desktop, but even that is not a deal breaker. I can see where Microsoft is heading with this and it makes sense to have a familiar interface across tablets, PCs and mobile phones.
Windows 8 upgrade stalls
My one major problem has been upgrading.
Every time it goes to upgrade Windows 8 the process stalls at 13 percent.
I have to exit and try again and then wait for the system to restore before I get back into the desktop.
A Google search reveals this to be a relatively common problem, but there doesn’t appear to be a simple solution.
I followed the advice here and removed audio drivers before trying a manual upgrade, without success.
I’ve updated the antivirus software, as suggested elsewhere, and that hasn’t made any difference.
Hopefully someone can post a more definitive answer to this problem.
