I have installed Windows XP over Windows Vista on my Dell Dimension C521 home PC.
Vista became so incredibly slow it was a pain to use. It took nearly five minutes to boot!
I know Windows 7 is due soon, and is tipped to be a big improvement on Vista, but I couldn’t wait. I may buy a new PC with Windows 7 if there are good reports and give this computer to the kids.
The installation of XP went smoothly. I had a service pack 3 CD to hasten the process.
Initial problems were obtaining drivers for the audio and ethernet, but I found these on the Dell site.
I copied over all my photos and music files, and installed MS Office and my favorite programs.
Only Adobe CS3 would not activate, claiming “too many” installations. That’s nonsense, because this was the only computer it was ever installed on.
I’ve sent an email to Adobe hoping they will address the issue. If not, I have old copies of Illustrator and InDesign I can install.
