World Tennis Challenge Adelaide

World Tennis Challenge Adelaide

The Memorial Drive courts in Adelaide were packed for the World Tennis Challenge.

Young Michael and I went to the World Tennis Challenge in Adelaide tonight.

The challenge is a three-day exhibition tournament featuring ad-hoc teams from Europe, the Americas, Australasia and Rest of the World.

The players are a mix of current stars and yesterday’s heroes.

Tonight we saw Frenchman Michael Llodra, ranked 45 in the world, play Stan Wawrinka from Poland, ranked 23.

In the legends match we were entertained by John McEnroe and Pat Rafter, followed by a comical exhibition of doubles involving Mansour Bahrami, Henri Leconte, Llodra and Wawrinka.

It was all good fun, made more pleasant by the cool evening and a great atmosphere from the packed crowd of 5000 people.

Things weren’t too serious in the doubles, as this video shows:

  1. Branson vacation packages says:

McEnroe is my idol! Hope you had a nice time.

  2. Thanks for sharing the video. It was definitely the tennis version of the Harlem Globe Trotters. Very cool. McEnroe is a funny guy for sure. Put a smile on my face just now. Thanks, David
